2016Feb.Istanbul 13 - Karaköy Güllüoğlu: Baklava

Before returning my room, I stopped at Karaköy Güllüoğlu, the most famous baklava shop in Istanbul.
This is their "One and Only" store, they say. And there are numbers of different types of baklava.

After all, I bought smallest - 500 gram package - of 'dry pistachio baklava'.
The package again tells they don't have branch stores... I saw their shop in Ataturk airport several years ago but it's gone now... was it a fake shop?? It's quite hard for me to identify whether genuine or fake amongst Turkish brands. This is not Rouis Buitton nor Lorex. ☺

So, this is it. Fresh crispy-outside, wet-nutty-inside baklava.
I think baklava is the sweetest foods around the world... the inside is viciously sweet, but unstoppable once started eating for whom has a sweet tooth.

Complementary tea bags are available at mini-bar, but I brought my green tea.
I wanted to try green pistachio with green tea. It wasn't too bad, actually I liked it as good as having black tea. This was my 'lunch' and good enough.  After finishing these baklava, I went to hamam, received massage again, was relaxing in the steam bath. I had soar throat during my outbound trip, but quickly healed by the steam bathing.

The next Istanbul series will be showing a dinner at the next door from the hotel, Lokanta Maya.

www

  2. obaKoba-sann,

Köfte, simit, and baklava… how mysterious are foods in Turkey !

Baklava seems to be made up of coatings of baked product made with flour, full with seeds of fruits and flavors, and wet thoroughly in a sweet liquid, doesn’t it?

Has baklava grown into an usual pleasing entity, or is it loved at commemoration of some occasions during the whole of the year in Turkey?

    Sorry again… you’re an American, I know.

    best denki
